About
The Portland Museum of Art is the oldest and largest art museum in Maine, founded in 1882. Its collection of over 18,000 works focuses on American, European, and contemporary art, with particular strengths in Maine artists Winslow Homer, Marsden Hartley, and members of the Wyeth family. The museum's Charles Shipman Payson Building, designed by I.M. Pei, is a landmark of postmodern architecture.
