The Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) in Salem, Massachusetts is one of the oldest continuously operating museums in the United States, founded in 1799. With a collection of 1.8 million objects and 26 million pages of archival material, PEM focuses on the intersection of art, culture, and nature, spanning world art and culture across five centuries. The museum is famous for its Yin Yu Tang — a fully furnished 200-year-old Chinese merchant's house reassembled inside the museum.
