The Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln is one of the finest university art museums in the United States, with a collection of approximately 12,000 works focusing on modern American art. Founded in 1963 with a building designed by Philip Johnson, the museum's collection is particularly strong in works by American artists from the 1930s through the 1970s, including Georgia O'Keeffe, Stuart Davis, and Mark Rothko.
