The Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh is one of the great natural history museums in the world, with a collection of more than 22 million objects. It is particularly celebrated for its dinosaur halls — Carnegie is responsible for the discovery of Diplodocus carnegii, casts of which were sent to natural history museums worldwide as gifts from Andrew Carnegie. The museum's Hillman Hall of Minerals and Gems houses one of the finest mineral collections in the country.
