The North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh is the state's premier art museum, with a collection of more than 42,000 objects spanning 5,000 years of art history. The museum's 164-acre campus includes the innovative Ann and Jim Goodnight Museum Park, featuring large-scale outdoor artworks set among walking trails in a natural landscape. The West Building, designed by Thomas Phifer, opened in 2010 to great acclaim.
