The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden is the Smithsonian's museum of modern and contemporary art, located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Founded through the bequest of Joseph H. Hirshhorn, the museum holds over 12,000 works of modern and contemporary art, with a strong focus on postwar American and European art. Its outdoor sculpture garden, set along the Mall, is free and open to the public year-round.
